Wenzel Elektronik Upgrades Train Control Centres of Deutsche Bahn AG to GSM-R
Workstations for telecommunication are extended to GSM-R functionality

The Deutsche Bahn (DB) has instructed Wenzel Elektronik to upgrade the workstations in the train control centres (TCCs) to GSM-R. Thus, the DB reaches its goal to unify the operator´s workstations for GSM-R and traditional telecommunication in all TCCs.
"During the quotation Wenzel Elektronik acted in a flexible and accommodating manner. It has an extensive know-how and meets the market and customer needs. Furthermore, Wenzel products are well-known for their high availability and redundancy, and operate successfully at the Deutsche Bahn. Therefore, our decision driven by economic and innovative reasons is to provide five of seven TCC with Wenzel future-oriented technology", commented Franz-Josef Schröer, TCC GSM-R/ART upgrade project director, the decision for the solution of Wenzel Elektronik.
Since the initial situation in the TCCs is very different, as a first step, the existing telecommunication systems from different manufacturers are interconnected to the Wenzel-MACS systems. The second step includes the connection of this new system to the GSM-R network and thus, the implementation of GSM-R/ART functionality on all workstations.
As part of the upgrade, the features are integrated into the existing Wenzel-MACS workstations by software. The complete GSM-R/ART functionality will be available on one interface in the future. Therefore, the operation is considerably simplified - extending the capacity at the same time. Wenzel Elektronik realizes the GSM-R/ART-capability for all dispatchers and contributes substantially to the standardization of the structure in the TCCs.
To improve the ergonomics of the workstation Wenzel Elektronik designed the WM-MFTT operator device for this project . Due to the fact that the WM-MFTT is highly compact, it fits the limited space for installation. With this extension of its product range Wenzel Elektronik completes its position as a market leader for GSM-R dispatcher workstations.
